Sheriff's Office Charges Suspect In Attempted Bank Robbery
On Tuesday February 21, 2012 the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office charged Glenn Stewart Howie (W/M DOB: 03/07/1964 Address:5618 Rohobeth Rd. Waxhaw) in connection with the attempted Bank Robbery at the TD Bank on Charlotte Hwy in Indian Land. Howie was arrested last week after a joint investigation between the FBI, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Dept., Union County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office identified him as a suspect in three local bank robberies. Howie was arrested in North Carolina and charged with the two bank robberies that recently occurred in the Ballyntine Area. Howie is currently jailed at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center. Below is the original release sent on the day of the incident.
On Friday, 01-27-2012 Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 8179 Charlotte Hwy Indian Land, SC regarding an attempted Bank Robbery. At approximately 4pm a white male approximately 40 years of age dressed in a suit, baseball hat, and sunglasses walked into the TD Bank at that location. The suspect produced a note that demanded money. The teller refused to give the suspect money and the suspect fled the store empty handed. The suspect is believed to have fled the scene in a white colored truck with a diamond plate tool box. The suspect was also described as having a bandage or band aids on the right side of his face. No one was injured during the robbery attempt.
Criminal Investigators arrived on scene and began a detailed investigation.
