Sheriff's Office Seeks CALEA Accreditation
ACCREDITATION ASSESSMENT TEAM INVITES PUBLIC COMMENT
Lancaster, SC, July 5, 2013 - A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will arrive on Sunday, August 4th, 2013 to examine all aspects of the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office's policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services Sheriff Barry Faile announced today. Verification by the team that the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office meets the Commission's state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation - a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence, he said.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.
Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, August 5th at 6:00 PM. The session will be conducted in the Carol Ray Dowling Health Services Building at 509 Hubbard Dr on the campus of the University of South Carolina Lancaster.
Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling (803) 313-2193 on Monday, August 5th between the hours of 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.
Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with CALEA's standards.
